How to Maintain Your Personal Hygiene While at Work
When at work, you naturally want to give 100% and to finish all of your tasks. Still, it’s very important to remember that it’s not all about deadlines and tasks and that you should also pay attention to your health. Because you’re not at home, it’s easy to slip out of your routine and get sloppy when it comes to personal hygiene. Unfortunately, such an approach will cost you in the end, so we recommend you make some changes to that you can maintain your personal hygiene at the highest level. Here’s how:
There has to be a hygiene policy
If you’re one of the bosses or managers in the workplace, you might want to implement a strict hygiene policy for everyone to follow. It’s best if you put it in writing and provide every staff member with a copy to read and keep in their desks. Make sure to inform all of them of your intentions as well as expectations of a neat and clean workplace. This small thing will firmly communicate to everyone on staff that workplace hygiene is taken seriously. You can also take it a step further and have the policy put in writing and placed on the wall in form of helpful posters. If you have such policies already existing in the office, it’s best to abide by them.
Keep the bathroom clean
If a truly hygienic workplace is your dream, a clean bathroom is a starting point and you should strive to maintain it that way at all times. This means that all automatic soap dispensers have enough soap in them and that there’s plenty of toilet paper, air fresheners, and towels or paper towels. There should also be enough clean wipes, hand sanitizer, and boxes of tissues. While this might be a high cost some aren’t willing to make, there’s no point in trying to cut costs on hygiene. Having these things available for the staff to use and plenty in storage will ensure that everyone is able to maintain a pristine and hygienic workspace. If there are supplies available, employees will be more likely to use them, as simple as that.
Have supplies at your desk
Your desk is somewhat of a sanctuary at the office as it’s yours, and you get to keep your stuff there. This means that you have a chance to keep a bag of supplies at hand in case something goes wrong and you quickly have to do some cleanup. A bag of wipes is always a good idea, as is a box of tissues. Of course, a deodorant is also great to have close by, and ladies could do well with a small bag of pads and tampons (men too can keep these close and offer to ladies in need). If you have the means and the space, a change of clothes is also handy, so that you can change your shirt or perhaps even pants if need be.
Daily showers after work
One tip that we have to advise you to do even though it’s not work-related is to take daily showers when you get home. By doing this, you will get rid of all the germs you might have picked up in the office or on your commute. We don’t mean just a 2-minute quick cold shower, but a real wash and body scrubbing with shower gel or soap. After showering, use a deodorant in a spray or a stick to prevent any body odors from developing and showing. If you struggle with excessive perspiration, you might want to think about different techniques to help you manage this in the office, especially if your work environment is a warm one. For example, you might start bringing alcoholic wet wipes and deodorant with you to work, or even a change of clothing.
Maintaining your personal hygiene while at work is surely not as simple and easy as it is when you’re at home, but it doesn’t mean it’s impossible. With a few simple changes, you will get great results, and be sure that there’s not a speck of dirt on you. While some of the changes we suggested here might be tricky to implement, but will pay off tenfold in the long run.
